Executive

President - Nicholas Mifflin

Nicholas is a Clinical Nurse Consultant in central venous access with a background in intensive care nursing. He is involved in vascular access research and clinical education for undergraduate and postgraduate Nursing and Medical training programs.

Vice President - Mark Sutherland

Mark is a Clinical Nurse Consultant, specialising in Vascular Access & Enteral Parenteral Nutrition. A position he has held at The Prince of Wales Hospital since 1991. Mark’s clinical background is in neurosciences and intensive care, where his passion for vascular access evolved. Mark’s current role leaves many scratching their heads as to the relationship of two vastly different specialities. Mark’s explanation is that his role has evolved over the decades, including the addition of vascular access to meet the needs of the ever-changing health care landscape. After all, the common ground for these specialities… ‘is plumbing’. Now his attention is promotion of vascular access to be recognised as a standalone speciality. Mark hopes this will be achieved before he retires.

Treasurer - Felicity Mclaren

Felicity is a Nurse Practitioner in Vascular Access and has a background in Adult Intensive Care. Felicity coordinates the vascular access service which includes managing patients with complex vascular access needs and insertion and management of central venous access devices across the hospital.

Lorenza Harrowell - Secretary

Lorenza is a clinical nurse specialist, a PhD candidate, and a university lecturer at the University of Wollongong. With over ten years of experience in both paediatric and adult critical care, she is committed to enhancing effective teaching and curriculum development, promoting evidence-based practice, and fostering lifelong learning within the nursing profession. Her PhD research explores the biomarkers of thrombosis in cancer patients, integrating her nursing and scientific expertise.
